Abstract
"Aboriginal peoples and Canadian Criminal Justice is the fist text to provide students of the social sciences with a comprehensive selection of the best material available on Aboriginal peoples involved in the criminal justice system. The articles collected here examine Native involvement at every stage of the justice process, from police to prosecution, courts, sentencing, incarceration, and aftercare. Most of the articles are empirically based and represent more than opinion or anecdotal evidence.

The book is divided into nine parts. Part I consists of an introduction especially written for this volume and establishes an organizational framework for the articles that follow. Parts II-VII include their own introductions, relevant press clippings, and 21 articles that consider the various topics from different points of view.

Part IX, the Afterword, comes from the conclusion of a recent provincial inquiry into Aboriginal justice and provides a rationale for the present volume: "In almost every aspect of our legal system, the treatment of Aboriginal people is tragic. We marvel at the degree to which Aboriginal people have endured, and continue to endure, what the justice system is doing to them. ...The time to act is at hand."--Back cover.
