Abstract
"The fighting, which history has called the Riel Rebellion was over. Louis Riel surrendered and eventually he was hung. Gabriel Dumont fled to the United States. General George Middleton declared to all who would listen that he brought peace to the North-West Territories. It was an uneasy peace. The Indians, who had never really wanted to participate in the fighting now became the focus of white hostility."--Introduction.
