Abstract

"Story Circles documents the storytelling and collective theatre techniques we use to give a strong voice to the experiences and dreams of inner-city kids. The materials in this book are designed specifically for young people whose voices have been silenced by the weight of poverty, racism and indifference; young people who do not see their daily reality reflected in the popular media. Their family and home life are not represented in school curricula; their first language and culture are not known or respected by the dominant culture. It is a process that seeks to affirm the experiences of each student, as well as to give them the tools to reflect and illuminate those experiences for others."--page 1.
