Abstract
"When Indians roamed the Great Plains of the United States to hunt the migrating buffalo herds, they met other tribes. They had to know if buffalo had been sighted, or whether the other Indians were friendly. But the language of the Cheyenne differed from that of the Crow, and the language of the Crow from that of the Kiowa. In order to understand each other, these Indians used sign language - a language of gestures, not words.
Here's a book that will tell you how to speak in authentic Indian sign language. In addition, sample sentences describe the life of a typical Plains boy, and also show how you can use signs today in your own activities."--Book jacket.
