"Raphael Victor Paul is an Aboriginal person of Dene heritage, born in a tent in Northern Saskatchewan in Haultain Lake. He spent 10 years (1944 - 1954) at the Beauval Indian Residential School and has since written this memoir to shed light on his story of survival.

Raphael attended both the Saskatchewan Teacher's College and the University of Saskatchewan before earning his Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan before earning his Bachelor of Education from the University of Manitoba in 1978. After his retirement in 2011, Raphael returned to the University of Manitoba to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree (2016).

Raphael is the first Aboriginal graduate from all of northwest Saskatchewan to fully complete his elementary and high school education and carry on to obtain two post-secondary degrees.
