Abstract
"People, Culture and Learning is a book that attempts to combine theory and practice in relation to what has come to be recognized as a significant factor in schooling, namely the phenomenon of culture. A very special environment is created when teacher and pupil meet, each with a unique background of culture, family status, individual tendencies and insights. The exploration of this area is the concern of People, Culture and Learning, with appropriate emphases on both theoretical background and case studies.

Part One of the book provides information of studies and theories about culture and learning from a social science perspective, and combines insights of sociologists, anthropologists, historians, and educators. Special areas of focus pertain to legal considerations, teacher preparation, and value teaching.

Part Two presents three case studies relative to Canada's Indian people, the Hutterites, and the Mennonites. These are described in terms of their unique basic culture, educational preferences, and public image. This information provides a framework for those wishing to apply the central concepts of intercultural education to a specific setting."--Book jacket.
