Abstract
"Let it be stated at once: A Magic Dwells is not an anthropologist's study of Navaho culture, nor is it a scientific work in comparative mythology, although it has elements of both. Dr. Moon does not center her interest on the Navaho Emergence myth in and for itself. Sher is, rather, concerned with the relevance of that myth to the lives of contemporary men and women, and with stressing its meaning to the psychological and spiritual growth of the individual.
A Magic Dwells, then, is perhaps best described as an inspired, splendidly organized, and engrossing analysis of the development of the personality, from birth to adult self-consciousness, which uses the Emergence myth as its touchstone and vehicle."--Book jacket.
