Abstract
"Although Canadians are not unaware of the North and often take pride in being "northerners", their knowledge of that region is vague. After the Second World War, however, Canada was thrust into a new military and political role that has made a clearer understanding of the North imperative. The past twenty-five years have seen change become as much a feature of northern life as of Canadian society to the south. Thus the focus of this book is on the altering nature of Canada's North -- change in our perception of the geography of the area and in the pattern of development. The goal of Canada's Changing North is to assist in broadening the understanding of Canadians of the vast northern area over which Canada exercises sovereignty."--Back cover.
