Abstract
"Early Peoples offers a new and unusual perspective on the history of one of the most important parts of the Canadian mosiac — the Native peoples.

Developed in conjunction with the exciting TVOntario series Origins, the book follows the structure and sequence of the programs in the video, and may be used in conjunction with the television series, or independently according to the needs of individual classrooms.

The book is organized into three chapters. Beginning with the movement of bands of wandering Asian hunting peoples across the Bering Strait land bridge during the last Ice Age, the book examines the gradual spread of these peoples throughout the Americas, the different environments that they encountered, the rich variety of cultures that they created in response to a new world, and the blossoming of sophisticated high civilizations in Central America, whose influence radiated widely across North America.

The book is lavishly illustrated in full colour with a profusion of maps, photographs, archeological artifacts, drawings and historical documents, which integrate the written text with a rich variety of visual material."--Back cover.
