Abstract
"Aboriginal rights and especially Aboriginal land title have become increasingly important around the world. In Canada Aboriginal rights have been enshrined in the constitution. In Australia and New Zealand Aboriginal title has become a major topic of political and economic life. Although definitions of Aboriginal rights are still fodder for the courts, governments have been recognizing their existence for over 200 years.
Here, 9 papers outline how governments in Canada, Australia and New Zealand have come to recognize Aboriginal rights. Subjects covered include treaties, Métis scrip, the Nishga claim, the Mabo case, the Waitangi Tribunal and recent issues in Canadian Aboriginal rights."--Back cover.
