Abstract
"In 1998, Canada informed the Blood Tribe / Kainaiwa that its claim regarding the 1889 Akers surrender had been accepted for negotiation of a settlement. At issue is a clerical error in a treaty amendment. This report sets out the background to the First Nation's claim & is based entirely on the documents provided by the First Nation & by the Specific Claims Branch of DIAND. In view of Canada's decision to accept the claim for negotiation of a settlement, the Commission makes no findings of fact. This report contains a summary of the claim & is intended to inform the public about the nature of the issues involved. It provides historical background (the surrender, post-surrender events, testimony of the elders), issues, submissions (surrender vote, fiduciary obligation breached), & conclusion."--WorldCat.org.
