Abstract

"Over the past two years the Native Council of Canada and provincial affiliate organizations have been carrying out research into the land claims of the 750,000 - 1,000,000 people we represent -- the Metis and Indians not covered by the Indian Act. The research, still in its preliminary stages in some regions of the country, has been primarily of a historical and legal nature relying heavily on documents from a variety of sources -- missionary records, provincial and federal government libraries and archives, Hudson's Bay Company records and private collections."--Introduction.
