Abstract
"Inuit, Métis and Indian Art, a collection of slides, prints, text and activity ideas, is intended as a resource to be used for visual art instruction. Due to its adaptive dimension, the kit could also be useful for the teaching of Native Studies, Social Studies, Language Arts, and even Science. Inuit, Métis and Indian Art is a basic introduction to the forms, varieties and methods of Indigenous artistic traditions and developments. The general term Indian art, or Indigenous art, includes not only many widely varied and disparate cultures, but also great time spans. Inuit, Métis and Indian Art presents a wide-ranging survey of Indigenous arts in Canada. One brief section on contemporary American Indian Art is included. There is a Pan-American influence of consciousness-raising of cultural pride and identity that affects all Indigenous peoples. A viable, vibrant artistic expression is a testimony to the mental, spiritual and economic strength of a culture. Understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures is promoted through a study of the visual arts of those cultures."--page i.
