Abstract
"Presented in clear, simple language, the information supplied in this book is indispensable to anyone involved in the fascinating craft of basket weaving. Basic instructions cover selection of materials, use of tools and equipment, care of tools and material, and even the necessary technical terms. But the chapter-long discussions of reed basketry, the special problems of handles, willow basketry, rush work, coiled basketry, raffia work, Hong Kong grass, and dyeing reeds and raffia will be of as much use to experienced weavers as to beginners.

Each chapter provides information on each step in the manufacture of specific articles (oval and oblong trays, stools, lidded baskets, bicycle baskets, table mats, tumbler holders, waste paper baskets, etc.); on scalloped, braided, and other borders; on linings; on skein wire; on working with plastic materials; and on stitching (Lazy Squaw, Peruvian Coil, West African stitch, Navajo stitch, Mariposa stitch, etc.). Each chapter is also illustrated with drawings of finished products and of the weaving pattern followed for each. Included also is a 15-page section of photographs of baskets old and new."--Back cover.
