Abstract
"The prophet dance has been identified as a complex of beliefs and practices among northwestern native people. The present study presents myths and oratories from a prophet tradition among the Dunne-za or Beaver Indians of the upper Peace River. Part One is an interpretive description of the Dunne-za prophet tradition in terms of its integration into their traditional nomadic hunting way of life. It describes the tradition's development in the post-contact period as a means of reintegrative cultural transformation. Part Two presents mythic and oratorical texts collected between 1964 and 1971."--page iii.
