Abstract
"This study, which is based on field work conducted in Nain, Labrador, examines both the indigenous and borrowed musical traditions of the Labrador Inuit. Special focus is placed on the impact which the Moravian missionaries have had on Inuit performance since their permanent settlement in Labrador in 1771. Comparisons are made between the current musical situation in Nain that in Pangnirtung, N.W.T., another Inuit community which has been strongly influenced by Christian missionaries."--page iii.
