Abstract
"Together with the New Lakota Dictionary, this pedagogically oriented grammar offers the most comprehensive documentation of the Lakota language to date, providing a self study reference and practice guide for second language learners of Lakota, as well as a detailed reference material for linguistic researchers, Lakota language teachers and native speakers involved in educational activities. Based on text corpus analysis, the grammar offers progressive coverage of all major grammatical constructions. The sentences that illustrate the various areas of grammar originate from authentic narratives and dialogs recorded from hundreds of Lakota speakers, making this grammar rich both linguistically and culturally, and helping the learner gain deeper understanding of how native speakers describe their worldview in terms of grammatical structures and cultural patterns.
